CMA CGM has completed its acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain, adding nearly 10,000 team members to CEVA Logistics’ North American operations. The transaction, valued at $1.4 billion at enterprise value, expands employment across the contract-logistics network in the United States and Canada.
FedEx Supply Chain brings approximately 150 warehouses and around 34 million square feet of warehouse space. Following the integration, CEVA’s North American network exceeds 240 locations and employs approximately 20,000 people. The company’s regional logistics footprint has tripled.
Workplace implications of a larger network
The enlarged organisation combines the existing CEVA workforce with the incoming FedEx Supply Chain teams. Its operations cover warehousing and fulfilment as well as connected transport and value-added logistics, creating a broader range of roles across warehouse operations, coordination and supply-chain services.
CMA CGM also says the combined businesses will accelerate the deployment of automation and robotics. For employees, that points to changing job content rather than a simple increase in warehouse capacity: teams may increasingly work alongside automated systems and digital operating tools as these technologies are introduced across the network.
CEVA is strengthening its sector capabilities in healthcare, technology, consumer goods and retail. These activities require employees who can manage specialised inventory, accurate processes and complex customer requirements. The completed deal therefore gives the company a larger workforce while broadening the operational settings in which its teams work.
Broader transport opportunities
The workforce expansion sits alongside multi-year commercial agreements between FedEx and the CMA CGM Group. CMA CGM will become a preferred, non-exclusive ocean carrier for FedEx, while the companies plan to cooperate on air-cargo capacity on strategic routes including Asia-Europe.
Those arrangements extend the business relationship beyond warehousing into ocean and air freight. Together with CMA CGM’s more than 25-year investment commitment in the United States, the acquisition establishes a larger employment platform for logistics work across North America.
