Girteka is developing new transport operations in Riga, Latvia, and Oradea, Romania, creating local opportunities for drivers, transport specialists and managers.
The company is approaching 100 locally registered trucks in Latvia, while Romania is preparing to receive its first vehicles and drivers. Each operation will include local driver employment, transport management and administrative support.
Recruitment begins in Riga
Girteka is already recruiting experienced professionals in Riga for transport operations and management roles. The new employees will help establish working processes, support fleet growth and build local teams as the operation expands.
Recruitment in Romania will develop alongside the launch and growth of the local business. Girteka says additional roles and functions will be assessed in both countries as operational requirements become clearer.
Driver shortage shapes employment plans
The International Road Transport Union estimates that Europe had around 502,000 unfilled truck-driver positions in 2025, representing approximately 13% of the workforce required by the sector. It also expects around 20% of the current European truck-driver workforce to retire within five years.
For a company operating about 800,000 full truckloads annually for more than 5,000 customers, according to Girteka, access to drivers is closely tied to available transport capacity.
The company already operates a sizeable local structure in Poland, where approximately 3,000 trucks are supported by recruitment, transport management and operational teams. Latvia and Romania will extend that employment model to additional labour markets.
For candidates, the expansion offers opportunities to join operations that are being built rather than simply staffed. The roles are expected to support fleet performance and reliable service for customers across Europe.
