DHL Supply Chain has agreed to acquire Colombian logistics and transport operator Open Market, with approximately 4,100 employees expected to join DHL as part of the transaction.
The workforce transfer will bring employees with experience in warehousing, transport, packaging, cross-docking and temperature-controlled operations into DHL’s Colombian organisation. Open Market serves life sciences, healthcare, consumer goods, engineering and manufacturing customers, giving its teams experience across several operationally demanding sectors.
Local knowledge during integration
DHL Supply Chain Colombia says the incoming employees bring extensive practical experience, knowledge of the local market and established customer relationships. Those capabilities are expected to support the integration of Open Market’s activities and help preserve service continuity for customers during the transition.
The physical network involved is substantial: 21 warehouses covering 120,000m², 13 cross-docking platforms and an owned transport fleet will be added to DHL’s Colombian operation. The combination creates a larger employment base across warehousing, transport and specialist logistics activities.
Open Market chairman Anibal Wadih said maintaining continuity and service quality was a priority during the changeover. He added that the sale reflects a decision to concentrate Open Market’s investment and capabilities on Brazil. The company is associated with AGV, while the Colombian operation will join DHL Supply Chain.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions. Once completed, the integration will make workforce planning, communication and the retention of operational knowledge important practical issues for both organisations.
